at heart stone counseling
Heart Stone Counseling offers a rich, supervised clinical training experience for Master's-level graduate students in counseling and social work. We are a small practice with a big clinical range — and we take the development of emerging clinicians seriously.
About the Program
Our internship program is designed to give graduate students meaningful, hands-on clinical experience in a supportive and approachable group practice environment. You'll work directly with clients, receive consistent supervision, and be treated as a genuine member of the HSC team — not just a student rotating through.
At this time, we only accept two interns at a time, which means you'll receive close attention, individualized feedback, and real integration into our clinical community.
What You'll Gain
• Direct clinical experience providing individual psychotherapy to adolescents and adults
• Exposure to a range of presenting concerns including trauma, grief, life transitions, relationship dynamics, body image, eating concerns, and addiction
• Training in trauma-informed, body-based, and non-pathologizing approaches
• Experience with a full EHR system (SimplePractice) and real-world practice documentation
• A front-row seat to how a values-driven group practice operates
Supervision Structure
• Weekly individual supervision (1 hour) with a licensed clinical supervisor
• Monthly group supervision with the full clinical team (third Thursday)
• Monthly all-staff meetings — interns participate as full team members (second Friday)
• Ongoing informal support and consultation as cases arise
Supervision is currently provided by Emily Van Cannon, LCPC, LADC, CCS, founder and clinical director and Becca Neuman LCPC, ATR, CCS

Who We're Looking For
We're looking for graduate students who are drawn to creative, non-pathologizing, and relational approaches to therapy — and who want to do more than collect hours. The ideal HSC intern is:
• Enrolled in an accredited Master's program in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy
• Interested in trauma-informed, body-based, or experiential modalities
• Self-reflective, curious, and genuinely invested in their own development as a clinician
• Comfortable working in a collaborative team environment
• Organized, reliable, and able to complete documentation in a timely way
• Aligned with HSC's values of respect, appreciation, curiosity, and openness
You don't need to arrive with expertise — you need to arrive with openness. We'll meet you where you are.
