Body Image Recovery:
A restorative circle
biweekly Thursday evenings 5-6:30pm
967 Broadway South Portland
Janet Steady, MS, RDN, RYT-200
“The body is not an apology. It is not something to be fixed. It is not a flaw. It is a miracle.” — Sonya Renee Taylor
Who This Circle Is For
This circle is for individuals who:
feel stuck in patterns of body judgment, control, or disconnection
are tired of trying to “fix” their body image and want a different relationship with themselves
value reflection, conversation, and shared experience over prescriptive advice
are seeking a supportive, thoughtful group space grounded in care and choice
No prior experience with groups, therapy, yoga, or intuitive eating is required.
What We’ll Do Together
In four restorative-circle sessions, we explore body image healing as lived and relational. We will:
Gather in circle to ground, reflect, and set shared intention
Explore and use the Eight Principles of Body Image Recovery as a guide
Weave story and science, drawing from lived experience, interpersonal neurobiology, attunement, and intuitive eating
Practice connection and belonging in community
Reflect and close with a word or intention to carry forward
This is a participant-driven process rather than a fixed curriculum. Each cohort shapes the conversation, making every series unique and responsive to the people in the room. The focus is not on fixing body image, but on noticing how we relate to our bodies, ourselves, and one another — with curiosity, compassion, and choice.
All bodies and experiences are welcome.

-
It’s a therapeutic support group facilitated by a registered dietitian nutritionist who works at Heart Stone Counseling. This means that it is a little bit of both.
-
Insurance will not pay for this group though we can accept HSA / FSA cards. We offer split payment options and are willing to discuss the option of reduced payment for those experiencing financial hardship. Heart Stone is also working to offer a discount to anyone participating in more than one Heart Stone group at the same time. More on this soon.
-
Movement will be gentle and optional; somatic practices are intended to be accessible to all bodies. You always have a choice to rest or modify.
-
Janet plans on this group being an ongoing one and hopes that the circle process will lend itself to shared and rotating facilitation so that content and themes will build and deepen as the group forms. That said, you are encouraged to go at your own pace, participate as you are able and enter back in when the time is right.
-
No. When you pay for the four / eight sessions, you are reserving your place. We want to encourage consistency and attendance.
